COX ENGINEERING
Cox Engineering is an HVAC service, construction, air handling equipment and accessories company. My title was Marketing Specialist, but the marketing team was very small and new, so I wore many hats. I redesigned outdated documents, applied our branding to presentations, as well as manage the social media accounts. I planned, created, captured photos and videos, and posted everything to Instagram and Facebook, with and got the LinkedIn page back up and running with consistent posts.

BCBSRI INTERNSHIP
I got the fantastic opportunity to intern at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Originally, I started off in the marketing communications department. The internship was originally scheduled to be from June 2021 to August 2021, but I was able to continue by switching to the corporate communications team. I did greatly enjoy my time with the marketing team, but this new position was a better fit for me. I got to get my hands on a variety of projects including video editing, photography, audio editing, website building, and social media.

CONTRACTS 101
Blue Cross had an out-dated video summarizing the process of contracting out jobs. I was tasked with updating the visuals of the video, and I was free to do it any way I wanted. I decided to create simple graphics in Illustrator and animate them using both Premiere Pro as well as After Effects. It was quite a long process and I had multiple colleague's inputs, opinions, and edits throughout working on it. Overall, I am very pleased with the results.

BEING AN INTERN AT BCBSRI
My manager, a colleague and I from Corporate Communications worked on a video that highlights how great it is to be an intern at Blue Cross. Before the summer term ended, my manager interviewed interns asking about how they felt during their internship. He got some great answers that truly highlighted the great experience we all had. My colleague created a rough cut and I finalized the edit. The video summarizes the diverse, inclusive, immersive, and welcoming culture of BCBSRI.

SCOTT HACKER HIGHLIGHT
Blue Cross and Blue Shield celebrated and showcased the many years of service that both Lisa DeCesare and Marisa Jacques have dedicated to the company. Lisa has spent 45 years with BCBSRI and Marisa hit 40 this year. My manager filmed them reminiscing on the last four decades they have spent together and I was tasked with cutting down the 30 minutes of footage to a more digestible video.
Scott Hacker is an employee of BCBSRI in the Project Management office. He is passionate about music and enjoys playing the guitar. As a part of Mental Health Awareness Month, my manager recorded Scott playing Prelude No. 1 by a Brazilian Composer Heitor-Villa-Lobos. I was tasked with syncing the two camera angles together to create the illusion of more cameras as well as dynamic movement to make the piece visually interesting. The music was used as the background music in this month's Rhode to Health Podcast.

INSTAGRAM REELS
When I was first offered my internship at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, I was told my main focus would be editing down already existing videos into Instagram Reels. Video based content is being pushed a lot more on all social platforms, and the goal is to capitalize on that.

RHODE ISLAND LIFE INDEX
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Brown University School of Public Health produced the third annual RI Life Index, which "captures Rhode Islanders’ perceptions of social determinants of health and well-being." A website and a PDF document were produced to summarize the data in a digestible way. My manager and I worked together in order to populate the website and document with graphics and body copy. I was mainly tasked with finalizing the graphics by resizing them and making sure they were cohesive. I also assisted in creating a PowerPoint presentation that was used at the official summit to share the findings. After completing both the website and document, I then went and edited the graphics and body copy to be translated into Spanish, Creole, and Portuguese.

BLUE ACROSS RHODE ISLAND
Every year, the employees of Blue Cross spend a day volunteering throughout Rhode Island and this year was the 10 year anniversary. There are a multitude of options for projects to be involved in. I was a part of the filming team, meaning I was fortunate enough to be able to capture the dedication and passion the employees of Blue Cross have for this day. I photographed, filmed, and interviewed the volunteers at a Habitat For Humanity site where they were building a house as well as volunteers for Partnerships for Providence Parks and Rec + Streetscapes where they were cleaning up and updating a recreational center. I also was tasked with shortening an already edited video in order to post it as an Instagram Reel, which you can view by clicking the arrow the the right.

DEAR LOVED ONES
This project is extremely personal for me. I have struggled with my mental health since middle school. During the end of 2019, I was struggling more than I ever have. Unfortunately, I was ready to say goodbye. I had a plan and a note written. I am so lucky to have such a strong support system that has helped me get better. For my senior seminar project for my Media Communications major, I created this visual poem that is based on the note that I wrote. I hope by sharing my experience I am able to raise awareness and help others. I am very proud of it and I am so glad I was able to create art from my experience.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME
I go to Old Orchard Beach in Maine every single summer. My parents are at their 30th year in a row going to the same exact hotel and same exact room. We go with a group of around 70 people. I have a countdown to this trip on my phone year round and it truly is my favorite week of the year. I have filmed little clips each trip in order to make short video summarizing the week.

DEAR ANXIETY
I was tasked with creating a visually dynamic motion graphic lyric video in AfterEffects. I decided against using song lyrics and got inspiration from a spoken word poetry piece titled “Dear Anxiety” by Clayton Jennings that I found on YouTube. I figured it would set apart my project from the others. The poem has a heavy overtone with an overall serious and sensitive topic, and I set out to match the feel with just a black and white color palette as well as simple line drawings. I combined my original vector illustrations with impactful typography and focused on emphasizing and perfecting the timing and transitions while maintaining a unified tone.

MY FIRST
TRIP TO NYC
In December of my first year of college, I got to go to New York City for the first time. One of my friends' dad was NYPD meaning we got exclusive access to places like the Empire State Building and in front of the barriers while watching James Cordon film a segment for his show with Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Hugh Jackman. I captured clips from our every move in order to never forget any details.

mini magazine
DOG TAGS
In my first print production class at Johnson & Wales, we were tasked with making a “minizine.” The project was to create a six-page magazine along with a front and back cover. We had to have an informational article, an advertisement, a creative piece, and an interview. One of these had to be a full-page spread. The topic of a magazine was completely up to us. We were also required to use all our own photography. My dogs are my best friends, so I decided to make a dog-themed magazine. The front cover features my dog, Harper. Inside the magazine is an article that highlights the benefits of owning a dog, an advertisement for dog food, an interview with a friend about her emotional support animal, and a poem. The back cover had to be an advertisement for Johnson & Wales. I made lots of edits to the typography and layout to update it to my current style. Overall, “Dog Tags” is a complete dog-themed "mini-zine."

HABITABUDDY
The assignment was to create a habit tracking app. I personally have been using a mood tracking app for well over two years now. I used this experience to create an Adobe Xd functioning prototype. The app allows the user to select multiple different habits that they wish to do daily, weekly, or monthly. Each task gets a color and an icon. Every time the user completes one of their habits, they check it off in the app by selecting their mood after completing the task as well as any notes. Overall, I created a user-friendly habit tracking app.

CENTURY GOTHIC
TYPEBOOK
For this project, I had to pick a font and collect information to create a type specimen book. I came across Century Gothic and liked it a lot. The book had to have a total of at least five paragraphs, the full alphabet, numbers, and symbols in the chosen font, at least five text anatomy diagrams, the history of the font, a biography on the creator, and at least two design-related quotes. Century Gothic is a very geometric font, so I wanted to highlight this fact. I started with a warmer color palette which contrasts my usual blues and purples that I gravitate towards. I ended with a cohesive and visually pleasing sixteen-page type specimen book all about Century Gothic. The finished product was quite different than what I had done in the past but transitioned me into a new style focused on geometry with a love of typography.

TRADITIONAL ART
Traditional art is where it all started for me. I have drawings that I did all the way back from when I just learned to hold a crayon. All throughout my childhood, people constantly gifted me new art supplies to experiment with and try out, however, I did not learn proper technique until I took my first official art class in high school. I ended up taking art classes all four years, including Advanced Placement Art my senior year, where I had to produce 12 original pieces all with a common theme. I came up with the concept of “Size.” I started with the literal definition and created pieces of small and big things. Then I moved onto size in the sense of body image and how one’s size can affect them. I enjoy and use all mediums including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, oil pastels, acrylic paint, and watercolor paint.

SPELLY YOUTUBE CHANNEL
Due to me being a double major, I have had the opportunity to meet many people with a wide variety of passions. Many of my friends from each major know about my other major as well. A friend from my media communications class, Henry, had approached me about starting a YouTube channel. He is very passionate about motivating people to be their best possible selves and he also loves working out and staying healthy. He wanted to share his passions through a YouTube channel and needed help with the branding. He requested a logo, a channel banner, a motion graphic intro, and a thumbnail for his first video. We had also discussed me continuing to do the thumbnails for him as he posted more videos. He is nick-named “Spelly” so he decided it was a good name for his channel. This was my first experience with freelance work, and it was definitely a great first experience.

PERSONAL PLANNER
Every school year, I get myself an agenda planner for the year. My usual pattern is using it religiously for the first couple of months, then I slowly transition into just using traditional to do lists. I have never found a planner that has everything I want, therefore I am not motivated to use it. It dawned on me last year that it would be extremely easy to just make my own. So, that is exactly what I did. I had all the sections that I knew I would use. My best friend also requested one so we collaborated on what to include. I made the pages on size A5 paper and bought binders on Amazon to fit the paper and they matched the color palette as well. I also included monthly pages to make a work out plan as well as a budgeting page. I successfully used it all through the 2019-2020 school year.

ANTIDEPRESSANTS, HEARTBREAK, AND A PANDEMIC
I consider myself a very organized person. However, you would never be able to tell if you look at the notes in my phone. I constantly have little thoughts pop into my head that I feel the need to write down. I started writing poetry quite a while ago. It was a nice way for me to express my feelings and create art from it. I very rarely share my poems due to their personal content. However, 2019 into 2020 was the hardest point in my whole life. I have struggled with my mental health more than I ever have, fell in love for the first time and had my heart broken from it, and on top of it there is a global pandemic happening. I turned to poetry when I felt like I had no other way to get my emotions out. These poems express some of my most personal thoughts, but I am proud of them.
