DEAR ANXIETY
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe After Effects
I was tasked with creating a visually dynamic motion graphic lyric video in AfterEffects. I decided against using song lyrics and got inspiration from a spoken word poetry piece titled “Dear Anxiety” by Clayton Jennings that I found on YouTube. I figured it would set apart my project from the others. The poem has a heavy overtone with an overall serious and sensitive topic, and I set out to match the feel with just a black and white color palette as well as simple line drawings. I combined my original vector illustrations with impactful typography and focused on emphasizing and perfecting the timing and transitions while maintaining a unified tone.

Out of all the projects I have done over the years, this one might take the top prize for most time-consuming. There were over 50 files that I created. File management was key for sure, and my professor suggested a perfect system to do so. Each graphic got its own line in After Effects, and I had to perfect the timing with the audio, down to fractions of a second. By the end of the project, I had heard the audio so many times, I had nearly memorized the poem completely. This video ended up being one of my favorite projects that I have ever done.
